One Room Challenge - Week 3

Heading into week 3 of the One Room Challenge and I am pretty excited how things are shaping up. If you are following along, painting the old dingy tile floor was on the schedule for week 2 and we were successfully able to check that off the list. I was a little nervous about how it would turn out, but I am thrilled with the result. It has definitely transformed the look of the bathroom. Between that and painting the vanity cabinet, it looks dramatically different. Here is a reminder of what it looked like before:

And this is how it looks now:

The process was actually pretty easy. We used Behr Porch & Patio Floor Paint in Slate Gray. You also need to apply a primer so the paint will adhere to the tile. We used Behr Premium Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer. We rolled one coat on, waited several hours and applied a 2nd coat. After a full 24 hours, we rolled on the first coat of paint. Waited another 24 hours and rolled on a 2nd coat. It says to wait an additional 72 hours before walking or setting anything on the floor. Time will tell how it holds up, but I figure it is pretty easy to touch up here and there if we need to since it is such a small space.

So here is what we accomplished in week 2:

  1. Painted floor

  2. Installed new vanity top

  3. Installed new baseboards

  4. Selected tile for backsplash

And this is what is on the list for week 3:

  1. Install backsplash

  2. Hang new mirror

  3. Install towel ring

  4. Hook up new faucet

  5. Shop for accessories

In case you were wondering, this is the tile we chose for the backsplash:

I have also come up with a pretty ingenious idea (if I do say so myself) for that awkward window. You will have to stay tuned to see what it is ;) Come back next week to see the progress and don’t forget to check out what the other participants are up to at One Room Challenge. See you next week!
